  It is effective in cases of diabetes, fever, and fluid retention, eliminating pathogenic factors, expelling surplus fluid, repairing deficiencies of energy and benefitting the spirit.
  It has been effectively used to treat bronchitis as well as exacerbating symptoms of chronic bronchitis such as chronic coughing. Moreover, animal studies have identified mangiferin as the principal active component of anemarrhena effective in scavenging free radicals, lowering blood glucose level. Inhibiting platelet aggregation is another medicinal benefit exerted by anemarrhena. This effect may be attributed to steroidal saponins. This suggests that these steroidal saponins isolated from anemarrhena might be used as a novel antithrombotic therapeutic agent in post-myocardial infarction.
